Citaat:
Following Jeremy McWilliams' less than impressive early season in the British Superbike championship, team owner Paul Bird has been piling on the pressure for the ex-MotoGP star to perform.

And, following two retirements at Sunday's Mallory Park round - as a result of a reported poor tyre choice and a stability problem - Crash.net has received reliable information, but which is yet to be officially confirmed, that McWilliams has quit the Stobart team after a widening rift grew between the rider and team boss.

Linked to the possible vacant seat with the Stobart team are James Haydon, who will deputise for Rizla Suzuki's John Reynolds for the next two rounds but then be available and also, bizarrely, Shane Byrne - who was at Mallory Park in support of his 2003 BSB title winning Monstermob-Stobart team at the weekend.

Rumours at the event were suggesting that McWilliams and Byrne could swap roles, with the Brit coming back to the UK and McWilliams going to the Roberts KTM MotoGP team.

However, Team Roberts appear pleased with Byrne and it would make little sense to drop the Brit so early in the season anyway, especially when their new machine is yet to approach full reliability and competitiveness.

For his part, Shakey has also made clear that he wants to stay in MotoGP and, having turned down the Stobart BSB ride before signing for Team Roberts, it's hard to see why he would suddenly now want to accept it.

Nevertheless, Byrne's close links with the Stobart team mean that he would be first on their wanted list if he ever became available again, while McWilliams has a similarly close relationship with Team Roberts.

The most likely outcome, should McWilliams indeed split from Paul Bird's outfit, is surely that the Ulsterman would join the GP team as a test and perhaps wild-card rider to accelerate development, while Byrne's position as full time race rider would be unaffected. Haydon meanwhile, would be the obvious choice for the Stobart ride.

Citaat:
Jeremy McWilliams will miss the Oulton Park round of the Bennetts British Superbike championship this weekend (April 30-May1), due to injury.
The 41-year-old Ulsterman has struggled since picking up an injury to his right shoulder at Thruxton during round two of the series. Medical advice has been for him to rest the injury.
"The injruy was preventing me from being in total control of the bike at Mallory and that's not an ideal situation for me or the other diers," said McWilliams. "I have a scan on Friday to determine the extent of the injury and that will determine the next step. Hopefully, the results will be positive and I can be back for Mondello."

It appears that Jeremy McWilliams has lost his British Superbike ride with Stobart Honda due to his appearance on the Proton KR at last weekend's Czech Republic Grand Prix at Brno.

McWilliams has missed much of the 2005 BSB season due to a shoulder injury, but stepped in to help former employer Team Roberts when KTM withdrew their MotoGP engines - a decision that also meant rider Shane Byrne was unable to continue with the Banbury based outfit.

The Ulsterman's BSB contract apparently allowed him to test and ride as a wild-card in MotoGP, but only with permission from Stobart Honda team manager Paul Bird.

The BBC reports that Bird wasn't informed that McWilliams would be riding at the Czech GP and had "no other option" but to sack the former 250GP winner, who had signed a two-year deal with his team at the start of this year.

McWilliams produced an impressive performance on last year's KR V5 at Brno, qualifying comfortably despite very limited running and setting the 16th fastest morning warm-up time. However, his race came to a premature end with technical troubles on lap 7 of 22.

Team Roberts are expected to miss the next five MotoGP rounds, since they are all expensive 'flyaway' events, but could return - presumably with McWilliams - for the Valencia season finale.

Stobart Honda will continue to field rising stars Michael Laverty and Gary Mason in BSB.
