Young Australian
Brendan Clarke is to become the latest Australian attempting to make it big on the international stage in 2008. After months of negotiations with both MV Agusta and Triumph, as well as several teams in the US, the 23 year old has now been confirmed as the lead rider in a new official
Triumph factory team in the British Supersport Championship. Brendan’s team mate is still to be announced.
“It’s been a long couple of months looking at the opportunities in front of me, but I feel I have made the right decision for my career. I had been talking to MV about staying here in Aus, or doing the World Superstock for next year. However MV decided to back away from Superstock and concentrate on selected World Superbike rounds with Kev Curtain.
"We had a few options in the US in the Extreme class, but that’s not really the direction I want take right now. If I wasn’t chasing my dream of an international career, I would have been happy riding for the Trinder’s or Scott from Champions Ride Days. They have looked after me for a long time and we all get on so well together. On that note, I would like to thank them and my long time mechanic and supporter Andrew France for everything they’ve done for me. Also for the support of Mcleod’s accessories over the years, they have been great”.
“I’m really looking forward to being part of the factory Triumph team, especially as the bike will be developed around me. I will also be working with the team when we are not racing. This way we are all putting in 100% effort. Team Manager David Redgate and I both want to make sure the triumph is at the front of the field and not just making up numbers”.
