McGuinness hits 129mph
The 130mph Isle of Man TT lap gets tantalisingly closer. John McGuinness clocked a stunning 129mph lap tonight (Thursday) on the HM Plant Honda in practice for Saturday’s superbike race.
McGuinness had run fourth for most of the first lap but was the quickest on the road from Cronk y Mona through to the Grandstand as he started his flying lap. He lapped at 17m 32.24s, 129.084mph, 7.5s quicker than Guy Martin on the Hydrex Honda and just outside his own lap record of 129.54mph set last year.
As he stopped in the pits to swap over to his superstock bike McGuinness said: “There were so many flies out there. I pulled a tear-off and pulled two at once so I could barely see where I as going on that second lap. The track was really dusty and I had a few slides here there and everywhere as well.”
Guy Martin clocked 128.166 on the Hydrex Honda and Ian Lougher did 128.14mph on the Stobart Honda. HM Plant Honda’s Ian Hutchison was fourth quickest with a lap of 127.54mph ahead of Martin Finnegan’s Klaffi Honda (127.29mph).
Michael Rutter was slowed by a slipping clutch on his first lap with the MSS Kawasaki. He went out on his supersport bike for two laps while the crew rebuilt the clutch. He did 125.00mph on the superbike – the first time he managed two laps in one session on the ZX-10.
Steve Plater did an amazing 121.38mph on the AIM Yamaha – the fastest ever lap for a TT newcomer. He said: “I’m really comfy on the superbike – it’s the most stable of my three bikes as you’d expect for a full race bike - and it didn’t feel like I was pushing that hard.”

Weet iemand hier of dat de Hydrex/Stobart/HM Plant 'Honda's straight uit het BSB komen of dat ze eerst nog worden omgebouwd voor de openbare wegen op de TT & NW200 ??

According to eye-witness reports, Weynand’s Bolliger Kawasaki hit the wall, splitting the fuel tank and the contents set fire to the ivy and tree branches overhanging the wall.
Practice was halted at 18.50 while a local fire tender was despatched to deal with the blaze and a road sweeper to clear all the debris.
Weynand was taken to hospital to be treated for an ankle injury. Gilmore had a suspected shoulder injury while Hodson escaped without injury.
TT rookie Keith Amor arrived at the crash site as it happened. He said: “I’d followed the Kawasaki guy but backed off a bit just before the Glen Helen section. Then I saw marshals running and the yellows out just as I arrived on the corner.
I braked as hard as I could and there was debris everywhere. I saw two guys on the track on the right and the Kawasaki guy on the left. And the ivy and trees were already burning. I stopped the other side of the accident because it was obvious they’d red-flag it.”
John Barton also arrived as the marshals started dealing with the accident. He said: "I just saw the black smoke as I came on the corner and thought, ‘what’s gone on here?’ It was carnage. The road was littered with rubbish I had to thread through at walking pace.”
Practice resumed an hour later.

Veelzeggend plaatje van McGuinness die duidelijk teleurgesteld was dat de races van zaterdag naar maandag waren verplaatst vanwege de slechte weersomstandigheden. Maar verder wel begrip van hem en de overige rijders voor de beslissing vd wedstrijdleiding.
